We live in a city that is no stranger to car accidents. Indeed, we read and hear about them every day, and likely have witnessed them firsthand. It is just a fact of life when living in such a densely populated area. However, a recent seven-vehicle car accident highlighted that, sometimes, these frequent car accidents are much more than simple fender benders.
The accident
According to the New York City Police Department, the accident occurred Friday after 2:00 p.m. on Prospect Expressway near the 4th Avenue exit in Windsor Terrace. The first car accident occurred between a Ford SUV and a Mercedes-Benz sedan. Both pulled over to the side of the road to exchange information. Then, another Mercedes-Benz lost control and collided with the other parked Mercedes-Benz. In turn, this pile-up caused four other vehicles, including an MTA bus, to collide.
After the accident
In total 10 people were injured. Of those 10, five were transported to local hospitals with serious or life-threatening injuries. Traffic on the Prospect Expressway was backed up for hours as the highway was shutdown for the NYPD to conduct its investigation. As of today, no arrests or charges have been made, but the accident is still under investigation. If anyone witnessed the accident or has dashboard camera footage, please contact the NYPD.
