Many people in the Brooklyn area have a job in construction. Part of every construction site is scaffolding, a necessary construction site piece that allows workers to safely work in higher places. Many construction sites have work that needs to be done at a higher level and doing it safely is critical. The New York Scaffold Law aims to protect construction workers.

New York Scaffold Law

Section 240(1) of New York’s Labor Law writes that contractors, owners and agents must provide safety measures for employees who are working at considerable heights. These contractors must provide one or more of the following: scaffolding, hoists, blocks, braces, pulleys, ladders, stays, ropes and irons.

New York is the only state that has a Scaffold Law. Because many construction accidents happen because of falls it is important that employers understand the importance of workplace safety. If a construction worker has been injured on the job, they may want to speak with a legal professional who is skilled in construction accidents. An attorney can immediately evaluate their client’s claim and identify all possible sources of compensation. A person may be entitled to a personal injury or wrongful death claim in addition to workers’ compensation. Possible source of additional compensation can be from property owners, general contractors, subcontractors, architects, and even manufacturers of defective products.

A construction site injury can be a life-altering event. A person may wonder how they will be able to support their family in the months and years to come. An attorney can help their client understand their legal rights and protect their future.
