Roads are still dangerous for motorcyclists

On Behalf of | Oct 12, 2020 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

Motorcycle accidents are especially devastating for motorcyclists, as they have lesser protection than motorists from the road. For example, where an airbag would save a motorist’s head from hitting the wheel and the car itself would protect him or her from the road, a motorcyclist has no such protection. That’s why they often end up with severe injuries, including concussions, broken bones and road burns in a motorcycle accident.

How common are motorcycle accidents?

While the number of motorcyclist accidents decreased 5% in 2018, there were still about 5,000 fatalities attributed to these kinds of crashes. Additionally, their representation in traffic fatalities is over represented compared to how many are actually on the road.

What are common causes of motorcycle accidents?

Unfortunately, motorists do not always realize they are sharing the road with other vehicles. Therefore, they do not check their blind spot properly and can take down a motorcyclist while turning. Their size and ability to weave in and out of traffic also makes it difficult for drivers to keep track of where they are in traffic, if they are not focused on driving.

Riders love the exhilaration that comes with being on the road and feeling the wind against one’s body, but this relaxing time can easily become disastrous if a distracted or negligent motorist is not paying attention to the road. If someone is injured in a crash, he or she may be facing unexpected medical costs. One way to deal with the unexpected expenses associated with the accident is by pursuing a personal injury lawsuit against the party responsible. While this does not bring about any answers, it can ease the financial burden accident victims face while they come to terms with their pain.
