New York City had a serious rise in traffic deaths in 2020. This trend was seriously apparent in a few hours from Nov. 24-25. NYPD’s collision investigation squad is now investigating three more fatalities from separate car accidents in New York City occurring during that time.

Brooklyn pedestrian death

A 69-year-old woman was struck by a driver in an intersection in Brooklyn’s Midwood section around 5:24 p.m. on Nov. 24. Police arrested the motorist for several traffic violations.

The motorist was allegedly making a U-turn in her 2020 Mercedes Benz S-450m sedan when she struck the victim in the crosswalk. First-responders found the victim lying on the street with severe body trauma. She was pronounced dead after being transported to Maimonides Medical Center.

Police questioned the driver who stopped her vehicle and stayed at the scene. She was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian, violating a red light, failing to exercise due care, and making an illegal U-turn.

Williamsburg fatality

A blown tire led to a bizarre three-vehicle accident that caused one death in Williamsburg, Brooklyn at around 1:10 a.m. Nov. 25. Police said that a 39-year-old motorist was driving his BMW X7 SUV when its right rear tire suddenly blew out.

The SUV swerved into oncoming traffic after its driver lost control of the vehicle. It crashed head-on into a black Honda Odyssey driven by a 26-year-old motorist. This made the Honda collide into a nearby tree.

The SUV was still out-of-control and then crashed into a Honda Element driven by a 34-year-old. The SUV then came to a stop.

The Honda Odyssey driver was found unresponsive and unconscious by first responders which came to the scene. He had severe body trauma and was later pronounced dead at Woodhull Hospital.

The SUV driver and his passenger were treated for minor injuries at Bellevue Hospital. The Honda Element driver refused treatment. No charged have been filed.

Motorcycle accident

Around 11:01 p.m. on Nov. 24, a 40-year-old motorcyclist crashed into a SUV on FDR drive in Midtown. Police said that he was operating a Harley-Davidson when he was struck by 25-year-old driving a 2020 Honda HR-V.

The collision’s impact hurled the motorcyclist from his motorcycle and onto the pavement. The SUV driver also lost control of her vehicle which hit a median and overturned.

Paramedics rushed the motorcyclist and driver to Bellevue Hospital where the motorcyclist was pronounced dead. The SUV driver was in stable condition. No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
