Allstate report names cities with worst drivers

New York City drivers sometimes get a bad rap, but a new report by Allstate Insurance finds they are fairly safe compared to drivers in other cities. The report found that the worst drivers in America are actually roaming the roads of Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Boston.

Allstate's America's Safe Drivers Report uses insurance claims data from the country's 200 most populous metropolitan areas to show which cities have the most accident-prone drivers. According to the report, drivers in Baltimore are the worst, going an average of just 4.19 years between car crashes. The drivers in Washington, D.C., and Boston aren't much better, averaging just 4.36 and 4.89 years between crashes, respectively. For comparison purposes, the national average between crashes is 10.57 years.

Meanwhile, drivers in Brownsville, Texas, are the least accident-prone, going an average of nearly 15 years between accidents. Drivers in Boise, Idaho, are the next safest on the list, going an average of 13.65 years between crashes. Finally, drivers in Huntsville, Alabama, are the third safest on the list, going an average of 13.39 years between collisions. As for the drivers in the Big Apple, they are ranked as the 88th safest drivers in the country, averaging a respectable 8.82 years between accidents.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 6.5 million U.S. drivers were involved in motor vehicle accidents in 2017. When someone is injured in a car crash caused by another party, he or she could pursue legal action to recover damages. For example, with the help of an attorney, a car crash victim could file a personal injury lawsuit seeking compensation for monetary losses like medical expenses, lost wages and property damage. In some cases, the victim could also seek compensation for non-monetary losses like pain and suffering.
